I am a Railfan by birth…

I have been fascinated by trains since childhood. Having said that, I know that each and every individual (at least in India), in his childhood, is in awe of trains but if that fascination doesn’t die after you have grown up, you become a proud member of a community called “Railfan Community”. This fascination of mine has led me to undertake numerous train journeys so far and the sheer enthusiasm and excitement for the same every time has forced me to observe each and everything related to trains in a detailed manner. Having spent a lot of my time observing, researching, and experiencing Indian Railways, I have been fortunate enough in understanding the nitty-gritties of its passenger reservation system.

My passion for trains started growing exponentially during my undergraduate days at IIT Bombay, where due to 24 hours of internet connectivity, which I had never experienced before, I used to participate in online forums just meant for railway discussions. Apart from discussions, there used to be thousands of PNRs posted by genuine travelers who wanted to know the chances of confirmation and we had to predict the final status based on our personal knowledge and experience. Since then, I have been part of the railfan community and continue to discuss and research about railways in all the possible ways I can. In all these years of following my passion, one thing that I have learnt is that Indian railways is a very vast and complex system for a common frequent train traveler to understand.
